Prologue

One day when I get famous and need fillers for my book, I might give this more thought ..... for now this will do. I claim to be no expert at either travelling or cooking or the random things I write about... But I would like to collate all my good memories (and efforts) into this space for reminiscing on those grey rainy days... What Blog its more of a 'Brag'!!

My Thank You Speech..........

I was introduced to cooking in the early years of my life by my Aayi while I sat at the kitchen dining table while she mixed spices and vegetables to create those sumptuous dishes. My brain took in what I did not intend to learn. My Aayi is a fantastic cook. Each day I woke up to a sit down breakfast of Idlis, Dosas, Upma, Dodak, Usli and the likes. A far cry compared to the ‘eat while you dress’ cereal we make do with these days. Any efforts Aayi made of training me in the kitchen went futile. It is hence ironic that Aayi, ‘my first teacher’ is still to taste anything cooked by my hand. My hard core cooking days started only when I moved to UK with my husband a few years ago. My husband, like a true martyr, suffered through my numerous cooking expeditions. His encouragement, fulsome praise where due and frank critical review drives me to try something new each week. It is to these two people that I owe whatever little cooking I know or strive to know today.

Its a girrrrrrll!!

A Ketan production. Directed by a doctor in a khar nursing home, a little darling star was born on the 9th of April 2007 weighing 6.5 pounds. I personally think she is a photo copy of my brother, all complete with the button nose that has been handed down from generation to generation. Oh I am soo pleased when people tell me she looks a lot like me. Secretly I know its only because I have a baby face and a button nose and most kids would look like me but it makes me really happy all the same.
I keep color print outs of the photos of the baby with me at all times. Just cant stop staring every few minutes.

I was in Llanberis, Wales at the top of Mount Snowdon, the tallest mountain in England and Wales when Ketan called to say his wife was in labour and the baby was due in the next two hours. Two hours later, I was peering at the menu stuck neatly onto the glass door of a quaint tea room and had just mentally decided on the full English breakfast when Ketan called to say a girl was born 2 minutes ago. Ecstatic, I did a bit of screaming before polishing off the sausage, egg, bacon, beans and toast and part of the cake which Mohit had ordered as well to celebrate. Congratulations to me :)

revival or should I say easter resurrection...

Its been three months since I last dropped a line or a word even onto my launch pad (ya ya u wont be laughing when I win those awards one day!). Since then I have been through loads of movies, lots of new recipes, stop start diets, a bit of travelling, two grey hair and finally a brand new niece (I shall write about the sweetie in my next post).

It was quite comforting when I sneaked occassionally into Prachi's blog and saw that Mishti was still at her pottery since Prachi's last post and Anika still had the chocolate sauce all over her face when they last met at 5 spice. Things have happened in India since you know!! Khajoor even bragged how she gorged on Parsi food or Prachi acquired her first real fast toy. Prachi's blog however remained mum through all this.

Prachi's back in NY this weekend-to be directly translated as..more time on her blog and four more posts, two of them cryptic, Anika doing the pottery and Mishti snickering at me---------- AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!
